Clinical requirements

Postgraduate Certificate and Diploma in Nursing Practice

To be eligible to undertake the Postgraduate Certificate or Diploma in Nursing Practice you must be employed in your specialty area and have the support of your employer to facilitate completion of specialty clinical competencies. You can be employed in any clinical agency as long as your employer is willing to provide appropriate clinical supervision and support. Your employer must sign a Confirmation of Employment and Clinical Support Form to confirm their support for your clinical studies. You should seek advice from your agency regarding approval of clinical support.

To meet the requirements of the postgraduate level clinical subjects, Foundations 1 and Foundations 2, you must complete a clinical practicum of a minimum of 300 hours per semester (384 hours for Mental Health specialisation). During this time, you will complete a clinical practice portfolio which includes specialty specific competencies requiring involvement of clinical experts at your agency. The portfolio must be submitted for marking at the end of each semester.

If you are granted credit for both clinical subjects you don't need to provide evidence of employment and clinical support. However, it is recommended that you continue to work in your specialty area in order to maximise the learning opportunities offered by the course.

Master of Advanced Nursing Practice

If you are undertaking the Nurse Practitioner pathway in the second year of the MANP, there are additional clinical requirements for enrolment. In particular, students completing the following subjects must be engaged in or working towards an advanced practice role:

You must provide an Employer Support of Advanced Practice Role Form, confirming your employer's support and multidisciplinary mentorship arrangements necessary to undertake extensions to practice in the clinical component of the subjects within your workplace or related agencies.
