Admission requirements

Please refer to our Admission requirements page.

Duration

The MNSc is a 225-credit-point coursework degree. This two-year full-time degree comprises five semesters of study, including a seven week summer semester.

The degree is intensive and accelerates your nursing education, allowing you to complete in two years rather than the three years that is usually required for a Bachelor of Nursing degree.

The MNSc normally cannot be undertaken part-time.

Learning and teaching

We have developed the MNSc around four interrelated themes:

  1. Approaches to learning and teaching
  2. Research-based practice
  3. Clinical skill acquisition
  4. Contextualised, integrated health care delivery

Our curriculum emphasises significant contemporary health problems identified as National Health Priority Areas: cardiovascular health, cancer control, injury prevention and control, mental health, diabetes mellitus, and asthma.

We take a research-oriented approach to practice. This approach encourages systematic development of clinical skills using evidence-based learning, an understanding of the close links between theory and practice, and the ability to undertake self-directed life-long learning.

Our teaching is based on up-to-date research which allows you to apply the most relevant theory to your practice to ensure best practice and best patient outcomes. In the final semster, following your theoretical and clinical preparation, you will undertake a specialist elective subject in an area of interest to you and a capstone practice subject to consolidate your theoretical and practical knowledge.
