Specialty and Advanced Practice

To meet the educational needs of registered nurses, the School offers a suite of postgraduate specialty and advanced practice coursework programs. These programs build upon each other from certificate through to masters level as shown below. The Nurses Board of Victoria accredited Therapeutic Medication Management Education Program has also been developed to assist nurses preparing for Nurse Practioner endorsement.

Specialty practice education is focused in five cognate areas in which the School has considerable academic and clinical expertise:

Primary Care (offered through Department of General Practice)

Advanced practice education at masters level enables students to develop skills and knowledge in preparation for leadership roles in practice and education and for extended clinical roles, including Nurse Practitioner.

ENTRY PATHWAYS

The School of Nursing’s speciality and advanced practice courses are available to applicants with a Bachelor of Nursing (or equivalent) and at least one year of documented experience as a Division 1 nurse within the five years prior to applying for the course. Specific entry requirements are detailed in the Admission Requirements section.
